Competition
There
was an inaugural Centenary competition held at Styal G.C. on 28th
April. Teams of three including one Junior played together. The competition was
won by Sophie Sivister and her team from Wychwood Park G.C.
We were fortunate to have so many Cheshire trolley pullers at
Eaglescliffe, the team were delighted it means such a lot to them, and also to
our large band of supporters sporting their Cheshire colours thank you very
much for all your support.
Message from County Captain
The Junior girls representing
Cheshire in the Matthew Brown Cup were Laura Jones, (Junior Captain 2006)
Hannah Davies, Jade Evans, Bronte Law, and Harriet Wilson. Together with the
Cheshire boys Team led by Josh Sims, the standard of golf throughout was very
impressive and I was particularly pleased in the manner the team conducted
themselves on and off the course. Charlotte Wild (Junior Captain 2007) will
lead the girls next year over the Mayday weekend.
Northern Counties match week
was held at Eaglescliffe GC in Durham. Our team included, Stephanie Farrar,
Caroline Marron, Kamilla Lawton, Laura Jones, Kate Whitmore, Charlotte Wild,
Gina Brown & Laura Thomas, the late replacement for the injured Natasha
Podmore. Cheshire gained wins from Durham 5˝/3˝, Northumberland 6˝/2˝ & Cumbria 2˝/˝ after the Friday singles were abandoned but
lost to Yorkshire & Lancashire both 6/3. Yorkshire won the title for the 4th
year running. Cheshire finished a very creditable third. Our thanks to Martin
Wild for providing the team bags for the girls which helped to generate the
team spirit which they displayed and I am very proud to be their Captain.

Juniors In Menorca
The Matthew Brown Cup
The first match in what is expected to become a
regular annual fixture between a Mixed Cheshire Junior Team and a
representative Team from the Balearic Golf Foundation, was played at Son Parc
Golf Club Menorca from the 25th to the 27th May. The
event generously funded by Hugh Brown of Bramhall GC. In memory of his
Grandson, Matthew, was considered to be a resounding success by all the parties
involved. At the end of the day the Balearic Team held the edge with some
excellent golf, supported to some extent perhaps by the complexities of the
European Handicap System, Producing a final Match result of 24 to 14 for the
Balearics, a well deserved victory which we are determined to reverse next
year.
Following an invitation to
attend a meeting at Warrington G.C. to hear Ruth Whitehead ELGA Vice Chairman speak about the proposed
ELGA Rules Changes, we are pleased that Clubs have appointed Club Delegates who
can be contacted and sent information. Views expressed at the meeting were sent
to ELGA who will be sending the revised proposals to Clubs. Another meeting is
planned for Mon 15th October. 7pm at Sandiway G.C.
